Trump lands in China for a high-stakes visit

President Donald Trump touched down in Beijing on Wednesday for a high-stakes two-day visit, as he expects to focus on trade with China and reportedly enlist Peking’s help in resolving the deeply unpopular war in Iran.

According to Bloomberg, the agenda for the Trump-Xi summit includes the following:

  • May 14, 10:00 a.m. Welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People
  • 10:15 a.m. Meeting with Xi
  • 6:00 p.m.: State banquet with Xi
  • May 15, 11:30 a.m. Photo session with Xi
  • 11:40 a.m. Tea with Xi
  • 12:15 p.m. Lunch with Xi.
  • Afternoon: Departs Beijing

Who’s who with Trump on high-stakes China visit

A total of 17 delegations are joining Trump on his visit to China, which includes business executives and key administration officials.

Some of them are Nvidia boss Jensen Huang, Apple chief Tim Cook, Tesla and SpaceX mogul Elon Musk, and BlackRock titan Larry Fink.

In a press conference, Trump says his “very first request” to the Chinese leader will be to open its markets to US tech and finance behemoths.

He said in a post on Truth Social, “I will be asking President Xi, a leader of extraordinary distinction, to ‘open up’ China so that these brilliant people can work their magic and help bring the People’s Republic to an even higher level.”
