Trump cancels Witkoff and Kushner’s trip to Pakistan for Iran talks

US president Donald Trump has cancelled US delegation’s visit to Pakistan for Iran talks.

The delegation was scheduled to leave for Pakistan today, but Trump announced the cancellation while speaking to US media. He said that all leverage in the situation lies with the United States and added that Iran can choose to talk to the US whenever it wants.

Trump said that since the US already holds strong bargaining power, it does not make sense to send officials on an 18-hour trip for negotiations that may not lead to meaningful results. He added that the US delegation would not travel such a long distance just for unproductive discussions.

Earlier, the US president had announced sending a two-member delegation, including Witkoff and Kushner, to Islamabad.

Meanwhile, an Iranian delegation led by Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad recently. The delegation held meetings with Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Asim Munir.

After completing their meetings in Pakistan, the Iranian delegation left for visits to Muscat and Moscow.
