ISLAMABAD: European Union foreign policy chief and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas will visit Islamabad on June 1 for official meetings and the eighth EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue, according to an EU statement.
The dialogue will be co chaired by Kallas and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Both sides are expected to review ongoing cooperation and discuss ways to strengthen future relations between Pakistan and the European Union.
The meeting will also allow officials to assess progress under the strategic engagement Plan, which was signed in June 2019. The agreement aims to improve cooperation in areas such as politics, trade, security, and development.
The EU Pakistan strategic dialogue is the highest level forum between the two sides. It provides an opportunity to discuss regional and global developments, as well as other issues of shared interest.
After the talks, Kallas and Dar will hold a joint press conference in Islamabad. The EU said media coverage of the event will be available through its official platforms.
During her visit, Kallas is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
She is also expected to meet members of think tanks and academic institutions. These meetings reflect the EU’s wider engagement with policymakers, researchers, and civil society groups in Pakistan.
The visit comes as Pakistan and the European Union continue to work together on trade, development, climate change, migration, and regional stability. Both sides are looking to deepen cooperation through regular high level meetings and continued dialogue.
