Rudy Giuliani attacks Zohran Mamdani in Islamophobic rant ahead of 9/11 memorial

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has said current Mayor Zohran Mamdani should skip the city’s September 11 memorial ceremony while making disparaging remarks about his Muslim faith.

Giuliani, who led New York during the 2001 terrorist attacks, told Newsmax at the weekend that Mamdani’s planned attendance “offends” him.

“Having lost friends there and being very close to many of the families, it offends me that he’s coming,” Giuliani said.

Asked directly whether Mamdani should skip the ceremony, Giuliani responded: “Well, there’s no question he should.”

Mamdani confirmed Monday that he would attend Friday’s main ceremony and several other 9/11 events.

“I’m proud to be the mayor of this city. I love this city. I love this country,” Mamdani said.

“What I want this week to be a focus on is on the families whose loved ones were stolen from them 25 years ago in the horrific act of terror of September 11, and a focus also on the first responders who did everything they could.”

Giuliani is also expected to attend the ceremony, where the names of nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks will be read.
