Cindy Crawford ‘heartbroken’ following son Presley Gerber’s death at 27

Cindy Crawford is “heartbroken” following the death of her son, Presley Gerber, who died on September 20 at the age of 27, according to a source close to the supermodel.

“Cindy is completely in shock over Presley’s devastating death,” the source told PEOPLE. “She is heartbroken.”

Presley, the only son of Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died at a rehabilitation facility in California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has confirmed that an autopsy was completed, but the official cause and manner of death have been deferred while additional testing is carried out.

Santa Monica police records indicate that officers responded to a report of a possible overdose and cardiac arrest on the morning of September 20. However, the medical examiner has stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that it could take months before an official determination is made.

A source close to Presley’s sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber, previously told PEOPLE that the family is “in total shock” following his death. The source said they were “saddened beyond words” and praised Presley for being open about his struggles and for using his experiences to help others.

Another source who has been close to Crawford said the model and Rande were consistently involved in their son’s life throughout his struggles and were deeply supportive of him.

“This was never a situation involving two absent Hollywood parents,” the source said. “Cindy and Rande could not have been more supportive of Presley. They were always there for him and did everything they could to help him.”

Presley had previously spoken publicly about his experiences with mental health and substance use. In a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he discussed his struggles with depression and said he hoped his experiences could help other people facing similar challenges.

“I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” he said at the time.

Presley’s final public appearance came in June 2026 at a mental health awareness event in Malibu, where he appeared alongside his parents. During a panel discussion, he spoke about the pressure of growing up in the public eye and the freedom he found in being open about his experiences.

The Gerber family has asked for privacy as they mourn Presley’s death. The medical examiner’s investigation remains ongoing, with further testing required before his official cause and manner of death can be determined.
