
Lebanese President thanked President Trump for his efforts toward establishing a ceasefire,
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, during which they discussed ceasefire negotiations and other related matters, according to international news agency reports.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun thanked President Trump for his efforts toward establishing a ceasefire and expressed hope that such initiatives for peace would continue.
He said that continued efforts toward peace and stability remain essential, adding that Lebanon supports ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at ending hostilities.
President Trump reiterated his support for the Lebanese government and people during the call, according to the Lebanese presidency.
He also stated that efforts to achieve a ceasefire between two countries are ongoing, signaling continued diplomatic activity to de-escalate tensions in the region.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump said both leaders agreed to a temporary truce aimed at paving the way for peace between the two countries. He said the ceasefire will take effect on Tuesday at 5 p.m. US Eastern Time.

He further stated that a meeting between Israeli and Lebanese representatives took place in Washington DC for the first time in 34 years, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also in attendance.
Trump added that he has instructed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine to work with both sides to pursue lasting peace.
The US President also claimed that he has previously played a role in ending nine conflicts worldwide and described this as his 10th effort toward peace, which he hopes to complete successfully.
