Pakistan on Wednesday slammed what it said were the Afghan Taliban’s “latest fabrication of lies” following recent border clashes along the South Waziristan border that left civilians injured and one killed, stressing that such lies carried no value and were designed to delude the suffering Afghan population.
The Pakistan Army on Tuesday night destroyed Afghan Taliban check posts after they targeted civilian areas in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda along the border, injuring five members of a family and killing one member.
Following the incident, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence had claimed in a post on X that Pakistani forces carried out “four strikes on the Commissioner’s Office and nearby security installations”. The post added that in response to the incident, Afghan security and defence forces in the area launched retaliatory strikes against a nearby Pakistani military base and outposts.
In a statement posted on X, the information ministry stated that the Afghan Taliban regime’s latest “fabrication of lies” on the Angoor Adda border incident again confirmed their “deceitful character”.

“Fact of the matter is that their cowardly forces initiated unprovoked fire and mortar shelling on unarmed civilians on Pakistani side, following pattern and instructions of their proxy masters, India,” the ministry added.
It noted that “immediate, effective and disproportionate response by our brave and proud security forces not only silenced their guns but inflicted heavy casualties on their men in addition to material losses including destruction of seven posts”.
The ministry further stated that “such lies of the Taliban regime’s so-called official spokespersons carried no value” and were part of a “litany of fabricated stories” that they keep on telling, mostly to their own people suffering under their imposed and non-representative regime.
Earlier in the day, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the “unprovoked and blatant aggression by the Afghan Taliban regime”, saying that the regime should “have no illusions” as any aggression against Pakistan would be confronted with unwavering resolve.
“Let the Afghan Taliban regime have no illusions: Pakistan will never tolerate attacks on its people or violations of its sovereignty,” Kundi said in a statement on X.

The remarks came after the Afghan Taliban regime targeted civilian areas in South Waziristan’s Angoor Adda along the border. In retaliatory action, the Pakistan Army destroyed Afghan Taliban check posts, and troops remained on high alert along the border, fully prepared to thwart any further aggression.
The K-P governor said, “I salute the Pakistan Armed Forces for their swift, forceful and decisive response,” adding that K-P had “sacrificed thousands of lives in the fight against terrorism,” but stated that “we will not allow anyone to threaten our people or undermine our security.”

The governor further warned that “any aggression against Pakistan will be confronted with unwavering resolve,” stressing that the country’s armed forces “have the full backing of the nation to defend every inch of our soil, and no threat or hostile act will weaken our determination to protect Pakistan.”
Pak-Afghan tensions
Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of harbouring militants who launch attacks in Pakistan, although Kabul denies this, calling the militancy its neighbour’s domestic problem.
Amid continued tensions between the neighbours, Operation Ghazab Lil Haq was launched around the end of February following renewed clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, after Afghan Taliban forces fired on multiple locations, prompting swift military retaliation by Pakistan.

The clashes intensified after Afghanistan launched a border offensive in response to Pakistani air strikes targeting terrorist positions. The two sides had agreed to a week-long ceasefire on the eve of Eidul Fitr on March 18, following requests from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In April, Pakistan put forth three core demands to the Afghan Taliban during peace talks in Urumqi, China, including Kabul formally declaring the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan a terrorist organisation, dismantling its infrastructure, and providing verifiable proof of the action. These demands form the basis of Pakistan’s negotiating position, which sources say has hardened amid persistent security concerns.
