First multi-cargo transshipment vessel arrives in Karachi

Pakistan has reached an important milestone in its maritime sector as its first fully transshipment cargo vessel carrying different types of goods arrived at Karachi Port.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced that the vessel, M.V. ERLIN, successfully docked at the KGTML terminal of Karachi Port Trust.

In his statement, the minister said this marks a major change in port operations. He explained that in the past, Karachi Port only handled container transshipment, but now the vessel is managing general cargo, break bulk, and vehicles as well.

He called this progress a big leap forward and said it is the result of recent reforms aimed at improving efficiency, boosting trade, and creating more business opportunities.

The minister added that Pakistani ports are now ready to handle all types of transshipment and transit cargo, including break bulk shipments, for regional trade. He said this development can help make Pakistan an important maritime hub by connecting global trade routes and increasing economic opportunities.
