Jennifer Hudson, a powerhouse, hit sky-high notes during her high-octane U.S. national anthem – The Star-Spangled Banner – delivery.

But controversy was sparked when a highly popular digital media account alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump, who was in the stadium, did not clap at the end of the performance.

Meanwhile, the moment caught fans’ attention. Yet, there is another point, observers noted.

It is the additional feature of the national anthem – the American’s one – when traditionally anthems of the two finalists are generally featured.

However, FIFA this time made an exception of honouring one of the tournament’s host countries, by giving them a symbolic honour.

Heimo Schirgi, who is the FIFA World Cup 2026 chief operating officer, explained the decision, stating, “Echoing the spirit of the opening ceremonies, which welcomed the world to the greatest stage in Canada, Mexico and the United States.”

He continued, “The closing ceremony will bring the FIFA World Cup 2026 full circle through music, culture and football, before we kick off the highly anticipated match that will crown the champions of this groundbreaking tournament.”

Meanwhile, Spain and Argentina’s match is ongoing at MetLife Stadium for the 2026 World Cup final.
