Ryan Gosling’s band Dead Man’s Bones announces new music after 17-year break
Gosling and Zach Shields’ rock duo is making a comeback with new music set to be released later this month
Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields are bringing their rock duo Dead Man’s Bones back after 17 years, with new music scheduled for release on October 27, 2026.
The pair announced their return on the band’s Instagram account on Thursday, October 22, signalling a revival of the project known for its eerie songs about ghosts and monsters.
Dead Man’s Bones released its self-titled debut album in 2009, collaborating with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. The upcoming release marks the duo’s first new music since that album.
The band’s announcement video features a haunting voice reciting a poem about ghosts returning to the world, ending with the words, “All of this must change Oct. 27”. A young girl’s voice then announces the release date.
Gosling’s partner, Eva Mendes, had previously hinted at the comeback on social media, writing, “Trying to summon new music from Dead Man’s Bones”. Following the announcement, she added, “He came through on his promise to me.”
Although the band has been inactive for years, Gosling has continued to demonstrate his musical abilities through films including La La Land and Barbie.
His performance of “I’m Just Ken” in Barbie earned him a Grammy nomination, and he performed the song live at the Academy Awards in 2024.
The comeback comes during a busy period for the actor, who is campaigning for an Oscar for Project Hail Mary.
He is also expected to appear in Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for release next year, while Marvel’s Ghost Rider is among the projects on the horizon.
