Selena Gomez’s reported involvement in Brady Corbet’s upcoming film The Origin of the World has drawn industry attention as insiders describe it as an X-rated feature project also linked to early awards discussion.
The film is said to include Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, though casting details have not been formally confirmed.
According to a source cited by The Daily Mail, Gomez’s decision reflects a continuation of earlier career choices that moved away from her Disney Channel image.
The insider said, “People seem to forget that Selena did the movie Spring Breakers, but that movie was very risky with the choices it made and the nudity and drugs, and the character that Selena played was something completely different from her Barney and Disney roots.”
The same source suggested Gomez has long sought to evolve her acting career. “As she has gotten older, she has done work to not only test herself but also allow her to grow up in the industry,” the insider added.
Despite public discussion around the project’s themes, insiders state Gomez has support from her husband Benny Blanco. According to the source, “Benny is proud of Selena and her decision to move forward with working on the film.”
The insider referenced director Brady Corbet’s reputation, stating he is “so beloved that no matter what he brings to it, people are expecting it to be his Boogie Nights.” The comparison refers to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 film, known for combining explicit content with critical acclaim.
