Anya Taylor-Joy gets candid about television and film differences as Lucky releases

After The Queen’s Gambit, an Emmy-winning series, Anya Taylor-Joy is returning for another limited series, Lucky.

But the actress had several hit films under her belt, such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Dune: Part Two.

Yet, the decision to move back to TV, Taylor-Joy explained, “The main difference that I find between movies and limited series or television shows is just the sheer amount of hours that you are allowed with a character.”

Though the actress said that her approach to film and television has been driven by the same passion, she added that the latter format sometimes gave stories more time to cook.

“There are certain stories that do best in a limited screen time, and that is a wonderful thing to do for film.”

“But there are other stories that just feel like they benefit from having time unpeeling the onion,” she told People.

If Lucky, Taylor-Joy said, fitted “the entirety of the seven hours in a film format would’ve made it an entirely different thing.”

“But I always approach the work the same. I never show up to work thinking I’m making a television show today or I’m making a movie,” she said.

“It’s the same interior work and it’s the same passion and the same love,” the actress noted.

Lucky arrives on Apple TV+.
