Trump threatens bombing Iran as ceasefire extension ruled out

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned that military strikes against Iran could take place if a new agreement is not reached, stating that bombing “may happen” as part of what he believes would be a stronger strategic approach.

In an interview with an American television network, Trump said he expected escalation if diplomatic efforts fail, adding that Iran had repeatedly violated ceasefire understandings and that there would be no further extension of the truce.

He reiterated that Washington is prepared to resume military operations against Iran, claiming that the Strait of Hormuz is under full control and that restrictions in the area represent a “major achievement.”

Trump further stated that he believes the situation with Iran will ultimately be resolved through a major deal, while suggesting that recent developments inside Iran amount to a shift in leadership and governance.

The US president also indicated that American officials, including JD Vance, are expected to visit Pakistan for discussions related to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Separately, speaking in a phone interview with CNBC, Trump dismissed criticism from opponents, claiming past military successes and reiterating his confidence in achieving swift resolutions to international conflicts.

He added that Iran still has an opportunity to improve its position through negotiations, stressing that while he is seeking a “great deal,” he is in no rush to finalize an agreement.
