Winston Duke makes shocking statement about David Jonsson’s casting in ‘Black Panther 3’
Winston Duke recently got candid and opened up about David Jonsson’s inclusion as the lead in Black Panther 3.
For those unaware, Ryan Coogler announced that the 32-year-old British actor will be the next iteration of the titular Marvel hero in Black Panther 3 when he attended San Diego Comic-Con on July 25.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine, Duke, who portrayed Jabari Tribe leader M’Baku in 2018’s Black Panther and 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, admitted that he is super excited to work with Jonsson since he came across his casting news in the third instalment of the superhero film.
The 39-year-old Tobagonian actor said, “I have not been clued in very long,” revealing that he met his fellow actor on the day when casting was announced.
He quipped, “I had a conversation with Ryan and that was it, like just right before, and it was a very new experience for me, just as much as these folks today.”
Duke went on to add, “It means as much to me as these folks today because we all love this franchise, we all love these stories, we all love these characters, and we all love Chadwick [Boseman]. So, it’s one of those things that it means a lot, and we’re so happy that we can take this step forward together [with Jonsson].”
It is pertinent to mention that David Jonsson will play the role of T’Challa II, the son of T’Challa (Boseman) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), who was introduced during a Wakanda Forever mid-credits scene as a kid whom Nakia is raising away from Wakanda.
Black Panther 3, directed by Ryan Coogler, will hit theaters on December 15, 2028.
