WhatsApp unveils paid subscription plan with new customization features

WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to introduce a new optional premium subscription called “WhatsApp Plus,” which has started appearing for a limited number of iOS users after earlier testing on Android.

The service is mainly designed for users who want more customization options rather than basic messaging features. It will be completely optional, meaning normal users will still be able to use chats, calls, and media sharing for free.

The feature is being rolled out gradually, so not all users can access it yet. Those who do may find the subscription option inside the app’s settings. Availability depends on the account and region.

During testing, pricing varies by country. In Europe it is expected to cost €2.49 per month, while in Pakistan it may be around PKR 229 monthly. In Mexico, reports suggest a price of about $29 per month, though final pricing could still change before full launch.

WhatsApp Plus is focused on extra features like custom themes, premium stickers, app icons, more chat pinning options, special ringtones, and improved chat list controls, rather than changing core messaging functions.

The move shows that Meta Platforms is exploring paid add-ons for its messaging services, while keeping the basic version of WhatsApp free for billions of users worldwide.
