Vanessa Hudgens says motherhood has changed her fashion style as she embraces life as a mum of two
“I now am trying to just figure out family costumes and what we can all do together,” she said
Vanessa Hudgens has opened up about how motherhood has transformed her personal style, revealing that she recently cleared out her wardrobe for the first time in nearly a decade.
The High School Musical star, 37, discussed her evolving fashion choices in an interview with People while reflecting on her partnership with Marshalls. After welcoming two children with her husband, professional baseball player Cole Tucker, Hudgens says she is entering a different stage of life and wants her wardrobe to reflect that change.
“I am now a mother of two and in my late 30s, and I realised that I hadn’t done a closet clean-out since my 20s,” she said. Hudgens explained that she came across plenty of clothes she no longer expected to wear and decided it was time to refresh her collection.
The actress welcomed her first child, a son, in July 2024, followed by a daughter in November 2025. The couple married in 2023 and have kept their children’s names and images private.
Hudgens said her fashion choices have become more modest since becoming a mother. “I feel like my style is definitely a bit more modest than it used to be. The crop tops are a thing of the past,” she told the publication.
Marshalls has helped her find pieces that are comfortable, versatile and polished. Among her new wardrobe staples are cashmere button-downs and sweaters, which she appreciates for their softness and ease of styling.
“I want to feel chic still, so it’s been really about finding great pieces that are comfortable but elevated,” Hudgens said. She added that she now favours clothes she can put together effortlessly while still feeling well dressed.
Despite the shift towards practicality, Hudgens has no plans to abandon the playful side of fashion. The actress described herself as a “big kid at heart” and said experimenting with outfits and hairstyles helps her feel connected to her inner child.
Her beauty routine also takes inspiration from autumn, with warm, earthy colours and darker lip shades among her seasonal favourites. She said she enjoys trying different lip pencils and matte lipsticks, particularly for a dramatic look during the colder months.
Beyond fashion, Hudgens is keen to make autumn memorable for her children. A longtime Halloween enthusiast, she enjoys visiting pumpkin patches, carving pumpkins, watching scary films and walking through neighbourhoods to admire holiday decorations. She also makes mulled wine during the season, saying the aroma helps make her home feel cosy.
Her Halloween plans have changed as she focuses more on family activities than elaborate individual costumes. Rather than concentrating on her own look, she is now thinking about coordinated costumes that the whole family can enjoy together.
“I now am trying to just figure out family costumes and what we can all do together,” she said.
Hudgens also encouraged other mothers to make time for themselves, suggesting that a small wardrobe refresh or simply getting ready and leaving the house can help improve how they feel.
The actress said taking a moment to look after oneself can make a difference on difficult days, urging women to treat themselves and find ways to feel good amid the demands of motherhood.
