The US House of Representatives has narrowly approved a $1.15 trillion defence spending bill that would increase military funding and expand military technology cooperation with Israel.
The 2027 National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) passed by 216 votes to 212, with most lawmakers voting along party lines.
The legislation now moves to the Senate, where it is expected to face opposition from Democrats.
According to the bill, military spending would rise from about $900 billion last year to $1.5 trillion, in line with President Donald Trump’s budget request.
The legislation includes a provision to strengthen military technology collaboration with Israel, drawing criticism from some lawmakers.
Responding to the vote on social media, Republican Representative Thomas Massie said: “Final vote total for the NDAA today which tragically merges our military technology and supply chains with Israel’s.”
“Let’s hope this version fails in the Senate because Section 219 is a betrayal of our sovereignty.”
Democrats have raised concerns about the cost of the package as Congress debates federal spending.
The bill also includes funding for Ukraine and the SAVE America Act, a Trump-backed proposal introducing new voting restrictions.
Trump has argued the measure is needed to address voter fraud claims, although there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud affecting US election outcomes.
