The United States expressed sorrow on Monday over the recent attack in Bannu, reaffirming its commitment to cooperate with Pakistan in combatting terrorism.

A day earlier, terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the Fateh Khel police checkpoint, martyred 15 and injured three others. The attack triggered a massive blast that destroyed the checkpoint and left several personnel trapped under the debris.

A statement issued by the US Embassy in Islamabad said the country was “deeply saddened” by the events in Bannu and extended condolences to the government and people of Pakistan, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police, and the families and friends of the victims.

The US stressed that the people of Pakistan deserved “security, peace and a future unburdened by the scourge of terrorist violence”.

Reiterating Washington’s support for Islamabad’s counterterrorism efforts, the statement added that the US remained “steadfast in its commitment to cooperate with Pakistani partners in confronting terrorism wherever it emerges”.

The statement comes amid renewed concerns over terrorist violence in K-P, particularly in the Bannu region, where security forces have faced increasing attacks in recent months.
