UK pledges £10 billion in new economic and military aid to Ukraine in major budget boost

British finance minister John Healey announced a sweeping £10 billion economic and military support package for Ukraine during his budget address to Parliament.

Healey told lawmakers the £10 billion would be “based on loans, export finance guarantees and (£500 million) in urgent military funding for this winter.”

The funding commitment is structured to reinforce Kyiv’s long-term fiscal stability and address immediate tactical needs on the front lines, acting as a crucial pillar of international assistance against Russian aggression.

The overall package is anchored by £7 billion in multi-year economic aid disbursed over a three-year period, paired with £3 billion allocated toward UK export finance capacity.

This financial framework is designed to sustain core public infrastructure and state operations in Ukraine while bolstering defense-industrial cooperation.

In addition to the longer-term economic backing, the budget carves out an immediate £500 million tranche of urgent military funding.

Ministry of Defense officials confirmed this winter-focused injection is earmarked specifically to plug critical gaps in Ukraine’s air defense capabilities against seasonal missile and drone campaigns.

Healey also said that he and Prime Minister Andy Burnham had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy before the budget and that Zelenskiy “told us ‘You’ve made my day'”.

The announcement forms part of a wider domestic defense and fiscal overhaul, which also outlines a strategic target to raise UK defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2030.

Ahead of the formal address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reportedly welcomed the package during a call with leadership, signaling a vital boost to Kyiv’s financial planning.
