President Donald Trump has threatened Oman with military action if the Gulf country tries to obstruct the talks over the Strait of Hormuz and hinder the peace talks with Iran.
As tensions between Washington and Tehran simmer and both sides vie for control of the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway, Fox News reported on Monday that the president issued the threat in response to a reporter’s questions.
Trey Yingst, a Fox reporter, said, “I asked the president about . . . parallel talks that are taking place between Iran and Oman about control of the Strait of Hormuz.”
He said that Trump responded, “If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s*** out of them.”
According to Yingst, President Trump told Fox News that Iran should “put up the white flag of surrender.”
“I have no time schedule…I’m not in a hurry…the midterms have nothing to do with my thinking,” Trump added.
The President confirmed there is a direct backchannel with IRGC officials. “They’re good poker players, but they’re dying.”
In a post on his Truth Social network on Monday, Trump said, “The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon.”
Since previous weeks, Omani and Iranian officials have been engaging in talks to reach a settlement over Strait of Hormuz, but no final framework has been confirmed yet.
