Trump hails progress in US-Iran talks: ‘Getting along very well’

President Trump has hailed the progress in recent US-Iran technical talks happening in Doha, mediated by Qatar.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump said, “Talks with Iran are going very well. The denuclearization of ​Iran is moving along well. They’ve had very good meetings, and ⁠we’ll see.”

Discussing the status of Iran’s nuclear program, the President said, “We hit them very hard last week. The nuclearisation of Iran is very simple, and Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

Technical negotiations between the US and Iran have been initiated in Doha, Qatar, though no direct face-to-face meetings between high-level officials of Tehran and Washington are currently scheduled.

According to sources as reported by Al Jazeera, the discussions are focusing on a range of critical issues, including, The nuclear program, framework for future diplomacy and much-awaiting release and financial management of frozen Iranian funds.

Given the pace of talks, Donald Trump has expressed optimism regarding the progress of these discussions.

An Iranian official also revealed that in the technical talks both sides seek to reach an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz and an enduring ceasefire. From the US side, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and envoy Steve Witkoff have been pursuing talks with mediators.

In a recent development, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has met with the US envoy as the trio discussed the “progress of the negotiations between the US and Iran,” including the ceasefire and situation in Lebanon.
