Travis Scott’s role triggers backlash as viewers highlight Astroworld incident

The films shows a father attempting to bond with his 13-year-old son by sneaking into the Rolling Loud music festival
A new trailer for Rolling Loud The Movie has sparked debate online after featuring Travis Scott in a leading role alongside Owen Wilson.
The upcoming comedy follows Wilson as a father attempting to bond with his 13-year-old son by sneaking into the Rolling Loud music festival.
The film, directed by Jeremy Garelick, also stars Matt Rife, Henry Winkler and Christine Ko, with additional appearances from Sexyy Red, Ski Mask The Slump God and Ty Dolla $ign.
The teaser shows Wilson’s character losing his son during the crowded festival before encountering Travis Scott backstage. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 2.
However, reactions online quickly shifted towards criticism surrounding Scott’s involvement due to the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston, where 10 people died following a crowd surge during Scott’s performance.
According to reports, thousands of attendees compressed towards the stage during the concert, with medical emergencies unfolding as Scott continued performing. More than 300 people required medical treatment and dozens were hospitalised following the incident.
Several users criticised the decision to centre a comedy around a large-scale music festival featuring Scott as the “main selling point in a movie about a festival when you know people died at his festival”.
Disrespecting the victims of the this tragic event and their families while also starring that disgusting misogynist comedian Matt Rife? Ew https://t.co/VV098lIaOG

Others questioned the timing and tone of the project, while supporters argued the film focuses on fictional festival culture rather than real-life events.
Rolling Loud The Movie was first previewed to festivalgoers in Orlando earlier this month.
