‘The Odyssey’ cast breaks silence on the film’s grueling production
The Odyssey actors shared their views on the film’s challenging production.
According to Radar Online, the film’s director, Christopher Nolan, reportedly restricted Hollywood luxuries and modern comforts throughout the production, such as high-end dressing rooms, mobile phones, UGG footwear, and even water bottles, to maintain the authenticity of Homer’s epic.
Matt Damon, who played the lead role in the epic as Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca, remarked: “It was the hardest movie I’ve ever done.”
Lupita Nyong’o, who was featured as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, shared that everyone was attentive, committed, and played their part to keep the demanding production on course: “Everyone is present, everyone is ready, alert and doing their bit to keep the train on the tracks.”
However, the director Christopher Nolan saw those challenges as an element of a larger creative vision. He said, “I feel a real responsibility to try and get as much on screen for the audience as possible. To give the audience the fullest flavor.”
“The fullest set. The fullest set of images and events that we can give them for a given story,” Nolan added.
It is pertinent to mention that The Odyssey will hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
