‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ gets new book editions ahead of Greta Gerwig’s ‘The Magician’s Nephew’
Among the releases is a graphic novel adaptation illustrated by Ben Hatke, scheduled to arrive on January 12, 2027
C S Lewis’ beloved The Chronicles of Narnia series is getting a new collection of special editions ahead of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew.
HarperCollins Publishers and Netflix have announced a publishing initiative designed to introduce the fantasy franchise to a new generation of readers while celebrating the upcoming film. The collection will include movie tie-in paperbacks, collector’s editions, retailer-exclusive books, a boxed set and a new graphic novel.
The initiative arrives as excitement builds around Gerwig’s adaptation, which marks the first time The Magician’s Nephew has been brought to the screen. The film serves as a prequel to the familiar Narnia stories, exploring the origins of the magical world created by Lewis.
Among the releases is a graphic novel adaptation illustrated by Ben Hatke, scheduled to arrive on January 12, 2027. The publishing programme will also include a deluxe collector’s edition and special editions intended for different retailers, giving fans several ways to revisit the classic story.
Some editions will arrive earlier, with releases scheduled for November 10 and November 17, while a hardback box set is expected on November 24. Pre-orders are available for the upcoming editions.
Gerwig’s film follows Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they discover the Wood between the Worlds and encounter the beginnings of Narnia. The story introduces audiences to the origins of the world and the powerful lion Aslan, whose role is central to the series.
The film features David McKenna as Digory and Beatrice Campbell as Polly, alongside a star-studded cast including Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Emma Mackey and Meryl Streep, who voices Aslan.
Netflix released the first trailer for the adaptation in October, offering an initial glimpse at Gerwig’s interpretation of Lewis’ fantasy universe. The footage features Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and showcases the film’s magical settings and characters.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 12, 2027, before streaming on Netflix from April 2, 2027.
The new publishing initiative gives readers an opportunity to rediscover Lewis’ world ahead of the film’s release, combining updated editions of the original material with new visual interpretations of one of fantasy literature’s most enduring series.
