One person was killed and at least five others were injured after multiple shots were fired into a large group of people at a ckub at a Swiss club.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2:30 AM during the annual “Aarau Rave” techno party held at the Schachen horse-racing track in Aarau (northern Switzerland, about 46 km west of Zurich). Approximately 3,500 people were in attendance.

A massive, large-scale law enforcement and emergency operation is currently active, involving local police, fire services, and deployed helicopters. Large parts of the city have been cordoned off.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspect or perpetrators remain at large, and a manhunt is underway.

Switzerland has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe although violent shootings are rare and it approved tighter gun control rules in 2019.

Cantonal police in Aargau said a manhunt is underway and urged the public to stay away from the Schachen district and are actively appealing for any smartphone videos or photos that could help identify the shooter.

A video on its site recorded successive ‌gunshots being fired. Large areas of the Aarau town are cordoned off, police said, and it has increased its presence beyond the town as a precaution.
