Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar paid tribute to the sacrifices of Sindh Police martyrs on Police Martyrs’ Day, saying their courage and dedication had played a key role in protecting the lives, property and dignity of the public.
Addressing a ceremony in Karachi, Lanjar said the relatively peaceful environment enjoyed today was the result of the unmatched sacrifices made by police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
He said the children of police martyrs were not only guests but also the hosts of the event, as the ceremony was dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of the fallen officers and supporting their families. He also paid special tribute to the mothers of the martyrs for raising brave sons who sacrificed their lives for the country and its people.
The home minister praised police officers serving in the difficult riverine areas (Katcha), saying they continued to perform their duties with courage despite dangerous conditions.
Lanjar paid tribute to martyred Assistant Sub-Inspector Khameeso, Constable Sagheer Hussain and Constable Ali Hassan, who lost their lives while fighting dacoits during Operation Nijat-e-Mehran.
He said the operation against armed criminals in the riverine areas was continuing successfully. According to the minister, 580 dacoits have surrendered so far, while 292 have been arrested and 51 killed in police encounters. He added that the operation had significantly reduced criminal activities and kidnapping-for-ransom incidents in the affected areas.
Lanjar also said police prevented 21 citizens from being kidnapped through honey-trap schemes during the first seven months of the year by using modern technology, effective surveillance and timely response.
He said while incidents of terrorism and crime often receive widespread attention, the achievements and sacrifices of the police should also be highlighted. He praised Sindh Police personnel for facing daily challenges to ensure public safety.
The minister said the Sindh government was equipping the police with modern technology, improved investigation techniques, resources, training and reforms to strengthen law enforcement and improve crime detection.
He reiterated that maintaining law and order remains the Sindh government’s top priority and assured that the police would receive all necessary support and resources to meet current security challenges.
Lanjar also directed Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho and the police leadership to further strengthen modern policing, improve investigation standards and prioritize crime prevention and public safety.
He said building a crime-free society is a shared responsibility and stressed that protecting citizens, upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace remain the primary duties of the police.
Concluding his address, the Sindh home minister once again paid tribute to all Sindh Police martyrs, saying their sacrifices would always be remembered.
