Gold Market Concerns in Pakistan:

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) recently assessed the country’s gold market and suggested the need for a dedicated authority to ensure proper documentation and transparency in gold trading.

The CCP noted that Pakistan’s gold market suffers from a lack of formal records, with over 90% of trade happening through informal channels. The country consumes around 60 to 90 tons of gold every year, while gold imports in the financial year 2024 were valued at 17 million US dollars.

The CCP also highlighted the Reko Diq gold project, which is expected to produce $74 billion worth of gold over 37 years, potentially transforming the supply chain in Pakistan. Most transactions in the country are still cash-based due to the undocumented nature of the market.
