Significant snow falls at BC ski resort despite summer still being in full swing

Winter made an unusually early appearance in parts of the BC interior on Sunday, with significant overnight snow falling at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden.

Webcams from the resort showed several centimetres of snow covering high-elevation areas early Sunday morning, a striking change after recent wildfires and temperatures reaching the mid-30s in parts of the province.

Snow covered the ground around the Eagle Eye restaurant, which sits about 2,345 metres above sea level, shortly before 8:00 AM local time.

“A little snow? No problem. A few more bike laps? Absolutely. Winter mode? Loading. One foot in summer, one foot in winter. We’ll take it,” Kicking Horse Mountain Resort wrote on social media.

Despite the early snowfall, summer activities at Kicking Horse are far from finished. The resort’s downhill mountain biking season is scheduled to continue until September 27.

Snow also fell farther east at Alberta’s Banff Sunshine Village and Lake Louise Ski Resort.

Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna avoided the overnight snowfall, with temperatures hovering around 10C on Sunday afternoon.
