Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat in the country’s parliamentary election, with projections showing the Student List winning a clear majority.
According to broadcaster N1, Vučić acknowledged that his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) had lost, despite the final results not yet being confirmed.
“it is clear that we have lost these elections”, Vučić said, referring to preliminary results from polling stations.
An Ipsos/CeSID projection showed the Student List securing 52 percent of the vote, compared with just 39.3 percent for Vučić’s electoral list.
The Student List is projected to win 138 seats in Serbia’s parliament, comfortably exceeding the 126 seats needed to form a majority government.
Vučić’s SNS-led list is expected to secure approximately 104 to 105 seats, while national minority parties could receive another five.
During his concession speech, Vučić criticised his political opponents, accusing them of dishonesty and appearing to suggest possible foreign involvement in the election.
His admission of defeat sparked celebrations across Belgrade, where supporters of the Student List gathered to welcome the projected victory.
