LAHORE: Summer vacations in government schools across Punjab are likely to begin from May 25, according to official sources.
Sources said the Punjab School Education Department has initially finalized the proposed date for the summer break, while final approval will be granted by the provincial government.
Officials further indicated that the summer vacation period may continue until August 16.
However, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has said that no final decision has yet been made regarding summer vacations in schools across Punjab, as discussions are ongoing on three to four different proposals.
He stated that the final decision on the school summer holidays will be taken within the next few days after consultation and review of all options.
In an earlier statement, the minister had also addressed growing speculation regarding the academic calendar and clarified that the final decision on summer vacations for 2026 would be announced after May.
He further revealed that the provincial government is considering reducing summer vacations by 15 to 20 days this year in order to compensate for academic losses and improve learning outcomes.
According to the proposal under consideration, the government aims to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 days, ensuring timely completion of the syllabus.
Officials are also reviewing adjustments not only to summer vacations but also a possible reduction of 5 to 6 days in winter holidays as part of broader education reforms aimed at improving academic efficiency.
