Punjab allows summer camps in schools from June 1

The Punjab School Education Department has allowed both government and private schools across the province to hold summer camps from June 1 to June 30 and has issued detailed instructions to ensure student safety during the hot weather.

According to the department’s circular, summer camps can be organized throughout June for students of all classes. The initiative aims to provide learning opportunities during the summer holidays while ensuring proper health and safety measures are followed.

Schools have been directed to conduct summer camps only from Monday to Thursday. Camp activities will be allowed between 7:00am and 10:00am to protect students from extreme heat. Summer camps will remain closed on Fridays.

Officials clarified that participation will not be compulsory. Schools must obtain permission from parents before allowing students to attend, and attendance must be entirely voluntary.

Private schools have been instructed not to charge any additional fees for summer camp activities. Authorities warned that legal action could be taken against institutions that violate these instructions.

The department also directed schools to conduct all camp activities inside classrooms or other indoor areas to protect students from harsh weather conditions. Outdoor activities during camp hours have been discouraged.

Schools have been asked to ensure the availability of cold drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, working fans and reliable power backup systems to provide a safe and comfortable environment for students.

The circular further states that students attending summer camps will not be required to wear school uniforms and may wear suitable clothing according to the weather.

The Punjab School Education Department warned that strict action will be taken against schools that fail to follow the government’s guidelines and instructed all institutions to fully comply with the safety and operational measures during the summer camp period.
