ISLAMABAD:
Barrister Salman Safdar on Monday met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail.
Imran has been in custody since August 2023, serving a sentence in a £190 million corruption case. He also faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with protests on May 9, 2023. He and Bushra Bibi remain incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail. They were sentenced on December 20, 2025, to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case, which pertains to allegations that the couple unlawfully retained a Bulgari jewellery set gifted by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
The PTI has been consistently protesting and demanding that the authorities allow Imran’s weekly meetings with his friends, relatives and legal team.
In a post on X today, Barrister Safdar said he met the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi for about 40 minutes for a meeting arranged by the jail authorities at 4:30pm.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, was finally allowed to meet with him in Adiala Jail for 40 minutes after 7 months.

According to Barrister Safdar, the meeting took place after multiple requests and marked his first meeting with Imran in seven months and with Bushra in 11 months.
“The session was insufficient to cover all cases/legal matters,” the legal counsel lamented in the social media post, adding that the two him of their health and the conditions in which they were being kept in prison.
Safdar added that both had also conveyed fresh instructions regarding certain legal matters and ongoing cases.
The lawyer did not provide further details about the specific legal instructions discussed during the meeting.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on September 2 directed the jail authorities to ensure meaningful human interaction, family access, exercise, reading material and other facilities for Imran and his wife, Bushra.
The court held that lawful incarceration did not authorise the avoidable deprivation of human dignity.
In August, the Supreme Court ordered that Imran be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and directed the government to arrange weekly meetings between him and his family.
On June 18, the IHC had directed Islamabad’s advocate general to ensure that a meeting was arranged within seven days between Imran, Bushra and their legal counsel to facilitate the completion of legal formalities and the prosecution of appeals against their conviction in the £190 million reference case.
Barrister Safdar last held a meeting on April 9 with Imran for legal consultation regarding the £190m case.

He stated that Adiala jail authorities had facilitated his meeting in compliance with IHC orders, adding that the meeting lasted 60 minutes.
The SC had previously ordered the formation of a medical team to examine Imran’s eye after Barrister Safdar’s report quoted the PTI founder as stating that “only 15%” vision remained in his right eye. The court also directed that both the medical examination and telephonic contact with his children be completed before February 16.
