RAWALPINDI:

Intermittent rainfall continued across the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday, bringing pleasant weather and relief from the prevailing heat, while causing traffic disruptions in several low-lying areas due to water accumulation on roads.

According to official figures, the highest rainfall during the approximately eight-and-a-half-hour spell was recorded at Shamsabad, where 54 millimetres of rain fell. Other rainfall measurements included 46mm at H-8, 45mm at Katarian, 44mm at Gawalmandi, 34mm at Saidpur, 32mm at Kutchery Chaklala, 26mm each at Bokra and Pirwadhai, and 19mm at Golra.

Dark clouds covered the skies from early morning, while cool winds significantly reduced temperatures. Rainfall began at around 6am and continued intermittently throughout the day.

District administration officials and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) remained engaged in monitoring low-lying areas and Nullah Leh. Water levels in the stream rose to eight feet at Katarian and 4.5 feet at Gawalmandi. Authorities described the situation as normal and under control.

Rainwater accumulated in several areas, including Sadiqabad, Committee Chowk Underpass, Asghar Mall Road, Mushtaq Baig Road, beneath the COD Bridge, Dhoke Chaudhrian and Chakri roads, Biscuit Factory Chowk, Saidpur Chowk and sections of IJ Principal Road.
