Montreal police have announced charges against 11 teenagers following a parallel investigation into the events leading up to the fatal police shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi in Longueuil last year.
Rezayi was shot and killed by a Longueuil police officer on 21 September 2025 after officers responded to reports of armed youths.
According to the investigation, the only firearm found at the scene belonged to the officer who fired the fatal shot.
Montreal police said four young men and seven teenagers, who were aged between 13 and 17 at the time, now face multiple charges.
According to the Quebec Crown prosecution office, the charges include unlawful assembly, concealing identity, carrying a weapon with intent to endanger public peace, wearing a disguise while intending to commit an offence and conspiracy involving the alleged planned abduction and assault of a minor.
Police Inspector David Shane said the charges relate to events before the shooting. The investigation followed raids carried out by around 100 Montreal police officers in February.
Meanwhile, Quebec’s police watchdog has completed its investigation into the officer’s actions and submitted its findings to prosecutors.
The Crown prosecution office said it is still reviewing the evidence before deciding whether criminal charges will be laid against the officer.
Speaking to reporters, the family’s lawyer Fernando Belton said: “They just want answers.”
Rezayi’s family has filed a $2.2 million lawsuit against the officers involved, while families of five other teenagers have launched separate legal action against police and the City of Longueuil.
