Pakistan’s passport has dropped one place to 101st in the latest Henley Passport Index, making it the fourth-weakest passport in the world, according to the rankings released Tuesday.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without obtaining a visa in advance or by receiving a visa on arrival. The index covers 227 travel destinations worldwide.
Pakistan’s ranking fell from 100th in May to 101st in July after the number of destinations offering visa-free access to Pakistani passport holders decreased from 30 to 29.
The Pakistani passport has remained the world’s fourth-weakest passport since at least January 2021, according to several Henley Passport Index reports published over the years.
According to the latest index, Pakistani passport holders can travel without a visa to Barbados, the Cook Islands, Dominica, Haiti, Micronesia, Montserrat, Rwanda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, The Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vanuatu.
Visa on arrival is available for Burundi, Cambodia, the Comoro Islands, Djibouti, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, the Maldives, Mozambique, Nepal, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Timor-Leste, and Tuvalu. Pakistani travelers can also obtain electronic travel authorizations for Kenya, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka.
Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Qatar no longer offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Pakistani passport holders, although they provided those facilities earlier this year in January.
The passport had already slipped from 98th in March to 100th in May, when the number of destinations accessible without a prior visa fell to 30 from 31.
In February, Pakistan ranked 97th after gaining access to 32 destinations without a prior visa, up from 31 in January following the restoration of visa-free access by The Gambia.
At present, only Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan rank below Pakistan on the index. Yemen is now one place above Pakistan, with visa-free access to 30 destinations.
Singapore continues to hold the top spot with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 192 destinations. Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates share second place with access to 188 destinations, while Sweden ranks third with access to 187.
Although Pakistan has remained near the bottom of the rankings over the past decade, its overall position has improved since 2021, when it ranked 113th globally.
Pakistan ranked 100th in both 2023 and 2024, 109th in 2022 with access to 32 destinations without a prior visa, and 107th in 2021 with the same level of visa-free access.
