Pakistan military leadership reaffirms defence pledge on Youm-e-Takbeer anniversary

Pakistan’s top military leadership conveyed warm greetings to the nation on the 28th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer, reaffirming the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to safeguard the country from all challenges, according to Inter-Services Public Relations.

The statement said Syed Asim Munir, Naveed Ashraf and Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu congratulated the people of Pakistan on the occasion.

Military leadership said Youm-e-Takbeer marks the historic achievement of May 28, 1998, when Pakistan became a nuclear power and restored the strategic balance in South Asia.

According to the statement, the milestone reflects the nation’s unity, resilience and determination to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national honor.

The military leaders described the achievement as the result of visionary national leadership, the contributions of scientists and engineers, and the sacrifices made by the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.

The ISPR said Pakistan’s strategic capability remains a national trust and continues to serve as a guarantor of peace, stability, territorial integrity and credible deterrence in the region.

The armed forces also pledged to continue working for the country’s security, stability and prosperity while maintaining their commitment to national defence.

The statement added that on this important occasion, the nation renews its pledge of unity, vigilance, resilience and dedication for a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan.

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted its nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan, in response to India’s nuclear explosions earlier that month. The tests marked Pakistan’s emergence as a declared nuclear power and are widely regarded as having restored the strategic balance in South Asia.

The development established Pakistan’s nuclear deterrent, and the day is observed every year as Youm-e-Takbeer to commemorate the achievement and reaffirm the country’s defence capabilities.
