Over 1.7 million pilgrims perform Hajj this year

The General Authority for Statistics announced that a total of more than 1.7 million pilgrims performed Hajj 1447 AH, including pilgrims from inside and outside Saudi Arabia.

According to the authority, 1,546,655 pilgrims arrived from abroad through air, land and sea routes, while 160,646 domestic pilgrims, including Saudi citizens and residents, also took part in the annual pilgrimage.

The number of male pilgrims reached 893,396, while female pilgrims totaled 813,905. Among the overseas pilgrims, 1,485,729 arrived by air, 54,429 entered through land border crossings and 6,497 reached Saudi Arabia by sea.

Officials said pilgrims from 165 nationalities participated in Hajj this year, highlighting the global significance of the annual Islamic gathering.

The authority also reported that around 388,700 pilgrims benefited from the Makkah Route Initiative, which allows pilgrims to complete immigration and travel procedures in their home countries before departing for Saudi Arabia, helping make their journey smoother and more efficient.

According to the statistics authority, the number of personnel engaged in Hajj operations increased to 420,070 this year.

However, the number of volunteers declined by nearly 22 percent, falling from 34,540 last year to 26,701 during Hajj 2026. The figures were compiled through administrative records provided by the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

Last year, a total of 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj, including 1,506,576 overseas pilgrims and 166,654 domestic pilgrims.
