OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5.5 its latest and most advanced large language model to date, introducing significant improvements in reasoning, automation, and real-world task execution across multiple domains.
The newly introduced model represents a notable evolution in artificial intelligence combining enhanced general knowledge, refined contextual understanding, and improved emotional intelligence to deliver more natural, human-like interactions.
These upgrades position GPT-5.5 as a powerful tool for writing assistance, professional communication, coaching, and complex problem-solving.
A key highlight of GPT-5.5 is its ability to handle multi-step workflows with minimal human intervention. The model is capable of planning tasks, utilizing digital tools, and validating its own outputs, reflecting a shift toward more autonomous AI systems.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman emphasized that the model’s defining strength lies in its ability to accomplish more with less guidance.
In addition GPT-5.5 introduces robust multimodal functionality, enabling it to process and interpret both text and image inputs. This significantly broadens its applicability across industries, including research, software development, and creative production.
Performance benchmarks further underscore the model’s capabilities. GPT-5.5 achieved 82.7% on Terminal-Bench 2.0, a test measuring proficiency in command-line tool usage, outperforming competing models such as Claude Opus 4.7.
It also recorded 84.9% on GDPval, a benchmark assessing performance across 44 real-world occupations, indicating strong competence in knowledge-based professional tasks.
OpenAI has introduced a tiered pricing structure for GPT-5.5:
- Standard version: $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens
- Pro version: $30 per million input tokens and $180 per million output tokens
The model is currently available to users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, with access also extended through ChatGPT, Codex, and the OpenAI Developer Playground.
The launch of GPT-5.5 comes shortly after the release of GPT-5.4, highlighting the rapid pace of innovation in the artificial intelligence sector and reinforcing OpenAI’s position at the forefront of next-generation AI development
