‘Obsession’ producer gets honest about the film’s success
Against expectations, Obsession became such a hit that it stunned observers in Hollywood and even the movie’s makers.
According to the film’s producer, Haley Nicole Johnson, “It’s a lot. I’m not going to lie. It’s a lot.”
“But I’ve been overwhelmed with how welcoming the industry has been to everyone from Team Obsession.”
She made the remarks at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Regarding the box office, Focus Features acquired the movie for $15 million and went on to surpass the $500 million mark globally.
Meanwhile, Michael Johnston, who played Bear, recently said there are still no plans for a sequel to Obsession.
“Look, it’s a magical world. Anything can happen. I would love that,” he said on I’ve Never Said This Before.
He added, “I will say, there’s no plan for that. Also, I don’t know how many people would want Bear back. I think the general consensus is that he kind of got what he deserved.”
Johnston also added that he is super-primed for the film’s writer/director, Curry Barker, as a potential step to expand the franchise.
“Curry’s idea of having it be an anthology series is really, really cool,” he concluded, before adding, “All different stories. I’d love to see a wish gone right.”
