Nicholas Hoult joins HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Season 2 as Gilderoy Lockhart
Season 2 is scheduled to begin filming this autumn ahead of the first season’s Christmas premiere

Nicholas Hoult has joined the cast of HBO’s Harry Potter series for its second season, taking on the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, Deadline reports.
The character features prominently in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and was previously played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation.
Season 2, which was renewed in May, is scheduled to begin filming this autumn ahead of the first season’s Christmas premiere. The series will air on HBO and stream exclusively on HBO Max.
Hoult’s casting adds another established actor to the television adaptation, which stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Returning cast members include Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
In the story, Lockhart is a celebrated but vain wizard who becomes Hogwarts’ Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.
He is known for his books about encounters with dark creatures and his expertise in Memory Charms.
The series is written and executive produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod serving as executive producer and director.
Jon Brown has been elevated to co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Gardiner.
Hoult, who currently plays Lex Luthor in Superman, will reprise the role in Man of Tomorrow. His recent credits also include The Menu, The Great, Juror #2 and Nosferatu.
