Nicholas Galitzine in final talks to play Ichabod Crane opposite Sydney Sweeney in ‘Hollow’
Nicholas Galitzine is in final negotiations to play Ichabod Crane in Hollow, Sony Pictures’ upcoming reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, starring Sydney Sweeney.
According to Deadline, Galitzine is being lined up for the role opposite Sweeney, who will lead the film as Katrina Van Tassel. The actor reportedly beat out a long list of performers who were also considered for the part. Sony has not publicly commented on the casting.
The project also stars Off Campus actor Belmont Cameli as Brom Bones, Ichabod’s rival. The film is based on filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer’s forthcoming debut novel, which is scheduled to be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in autumn 2027. Beer is also attached to write and direct the adaptation.
Unlike previous versions of Washington Irving’s classic story, Hollow will place Katrina at the centre of the narrative. Rather than portraying her simply as the romantic interest caught between Ichabod and Brom, the story reimagines her as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and a supernatural love triangle.
The project is described as combining gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue and erotic thriller elements. It will offer a different perspective on the familiar tale of the Headless Horseman, shifting attention away from Ichabod’s experiences and towards Katrina’s story.
Ichabod Crane is one of the best-known characters from Irving’s 1820 short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The character was famously portrayed by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 1999 film adaptation, which also starred Christina Ricci as Katrina Van Tassel.
For Galitzine, the role follows a busy period in his career. The actor recently starred as He-Man in Masters of the Universe and previously appeared in Red, White & Royal Blue and The Idea of You, opposite Anne Hathaway.
Sweeney will produce the film through her newly launched Honey Trap banner, alongside Beer and her Lab Brew banner and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap. Hollow marks the first film production for Honey Trap, which recently secured a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.
