Netanyahu confronts Vance over his criticism of the Israeli government: Here’s why

Vice President JD Vance has been one of the most outspoken detractors of the Israeli government within President Trump’s administration and held a direct conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about their differences in a private meeting in Washington on Tuesday, according to Israeli and US officials reports.

The primary motive behind these talks is that Vance has been the most skeptical voice toward Netanyahu in Trump’s inner circle since the beginning of the tensions between both countries.

He became hypercritical of the Israeli’s prime minister as the war prolonged for months. Vance assumed a larger responsibility over war policy and Iran negotiations as the conflict progressed.

Netanyahu dissented from the accord but didn’t call out against it publicly, awaiting its natural demise.

Meanwhile tensions between the two have been simmering behind the scenes. Netanyahu was unhappy about Vance’s public criticism of him in which the vice president accused the Israeli leader of inciting resistance to the MOU and being disloyal to President Trump.

According to Vance, he believes Netanyahu was deploying his associates and allies in the pro-Netanyahu media in Israel and the US to defame or slander him publicly.

Vance and Netanyahu had a tense conversation in March during which Vance indicated that several of Netanyahu’s conflict projections had proved far too positive, especially concerning the prospect of a popular uprising overthrowing the regime. Vance then issued a public advisory to members of the Israeli government who were attacking the deal with Iran.

In this connection, Vance said, “If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world.”

Furthermore, Vance implicated some members of the Israeli government in running a propaganda campaign to push the US away from diplomacy and keep the war going.
