ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and chaired a high-level meeting to review fire safety measures, cooling systems and steps to reduce the burden on the hospital.
Heads of hospitals, the additional secretary health, joint secretary, director general health and District Health Officer Islamabad attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed progress on fire safety audits in government hospitals and measures being taken to improve safety standards.
Kamal also reviewed the HVAC system at PIMS to ensure adequate cooling. He directed that the HVAC system at the Children’s Hospital be made fully operational on an emergency basis.
The minister said a telemedicine center would be launched at PIMS to help reduce the burden of patients visiting the hospital.
He also directed the CEO of the health card program to launch an awareness campaign about the Prime Minister’s Health Card facilities to ease the patient load at PIMS.
Kamal said citizens can receive free and quality medical treatment at 15 hospitals in Islamabad that are on the Prime Minister’s Health Card panel.
Residents of Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan can avail themselves of free treatment at the panel hospitals under the program.
He directed officials to ensure widespread awareness about the free treatment facilities available at the 15 panel hospitals.

Later, the health minister visited various departments of the new emergency unit and directed authorities to make the facility operational on an emergency basis.
