Eminem quietly funded rehab for Kurupt during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
The admission came from Kurupt, 53, during his recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning where the rapper opened up about his battle with alcohol addiction, subsequent seizures, and eventually coma for three weeks.
Kurupt, whose real name is Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, recalled receiving support from longtime collaborator Dr. Dre, who regularly checked in on him during his recovery.
Kurupt then revealed that it was Eminem, also 53, who went a step further by arranging treatment and covering the costs.
“He said, ‘I’m gonna put Kurupt with my folks, and I’m going to put some money into getting him into a rehab situation where he can sit down and be out the way. Nobody will know he’s there,'” Kurupt recalled, adding that the treatment was expensive.
He said Dr. Dre later passed along Eminem’s message, telling him, “Tell Kurupt I love him.”
Looking back on the gesture, Kurupt said it meant a great deal to him.
“That was real special to me. I appreciate both of them so much,” he said. “He just came out of nowhere… ‘Tell Kurupt get well, we love him.’ That’s deep.”
The two rappers have shared a long history, with Eminem famously naming Kurupt among his favorite emcees in the 2002 track Till I Collapse.
Eminem has had his own recovery journey after a near-fatal overdose in 2007.
