Keanu Reeves is set to play John Wick again in an animated film.

The confirmation came recently from Lionsgate, after they first announced the project at CinemaCon in 2025.

The movie is a prequel set before the first John Wick film. It will show Wick completing the Impossible Task, which frees him from the High Table so he can be with Helen, the love of his life.

Shannon Tindle, known for Kubo and the Two Strings, will be directing, while Ryan and Kaz Firpo have written the script.

The producers are Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, and Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment. Reeves and Point Grey are also producing. Nathan Kahane is an executive producer.

When first announcing the project, Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson said fans want the Impossible Task story more than any other. He said the studio is excited to see what Wick can do in animation.

Stahelski, who has directed the live-action John Wick films, also lent some words, saying he has long been fascinated by anime, and that it has influenced the series. He called the project a perfect step for the franchise.

Reeves first played Wick in 2014. He has now appeared in five John Wick films. The most recent was Ballerina in 2025.
