Kacey Musgraves suffers dangerous setback as stage sets ablaze during concert
Kacey Musgraves had a pyrotechnical issue during her latest concert in Boston.
The 38-year-old country singer is in the midst of her Middle of Nowhere tour, and a small fire ignited in the rafters of the stage as she performed her 2018 hit Golden Hour.
Ironically, a lyric in the song is “you set my world on fire,” and the stage was aglow with orchestrated sparks as she performed the track.
Footage caught by concertgoer Daniel Preda, @misterpreda on Instagram, showed the pro bravely keeping the audience entertained as a light fixture flickered with flames.
“That looks bad. Genuinely, something’s on fire,” she said before adding, “I have way too much hairspray to be standing under that s**t.”
She attempted to talk about the making of her latest album before admitting the blaze, feet above her head, was giving her anxiety.
“I only like pyro when I know what’s going to happen,” the singer-songwriter joked as she tried to keep the audience hooked.
Musgraves then jokingly asked, “Does anybody have like a bedazzled fire extinguisher anywhere?”
Elsewhere in the show, Musgraves made sure to pay tribute to the late Dolly Parton, after the music icon died on Tuesday at age 80.
To honor the legendary Tennessee native, she performed her song Rainbow, as well as a cover of Parton’s 1977 song Here You Come Again.
Before singing, Musgraves said in a video shared on Instagram, “I think the most amazing thing about all this is not anybody mentioning the Grammys [Parton won], the accolades, or any of that. It’s what a humanitarian [Parton was].”
“And damn, we can all learn a lot from someone like that, you know?” she added. “It feels weird to grieve a celebrity, right? But she’s woven into the fabric of who we’ve always been, so it just feels extra sad.”
Kacey Musgraves captioned the clip, “Rest in rhinestones, Dolly.”
