RAWALPINDI: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation and border management.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two sides reviewed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and measures to enhance cooperation on effective border management.
During the meeting, Momeni praised Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions, saying the country has played an indispensable role in promoting de-escalation and serving as an anchor for peace.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close coordination and strengthening cooperative mechanisms aimed at enhancing regional security and promoting mutual prosperity.

Earlier, Iran is seeking to increase its annual trade with Pakistan to $10 billion, nearly tripling the current volume of bilateral commerce, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni said during an official visit to Islamabad on Tuesday.
Momeni, who is leading a high-level Iranian delegation, said expanding economic cooperation and cross-border trade is a key priority for both countries. Bilateral trade currently stands at nearly $3 billion annually.
Speaking upon his arrival, the Iranian minister said the visit aims to review the implementation of agreements reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June and to identify new opportunities for strengthening cooperation in trade and other sectors.
