Meta’s messaging app WhatsApp is testing a new paid subscription called “WhatsApp Plus,” aimed at improving the user experience with more personalization options like custom icons, themes, ringtones, and other features.
The feature has been noticed by several users during testing, and the company has confirmed that it is an optional plan for those who want additional features. According to reports, the subscription is designed to give users more control over organizing and customizing their chats.
With WhatsApp Plus, users will be able to use different themes, ringtones, and notification sounds, and also pin up to 20 chats instead of the usual three available in the free version.
The premium plan is expected to include features like expanded pinned chats, custom lists, and new chat themes. The company is currently testing it on a small scale to gather feedback and ensure it provides real value to users.
According to reports, the estimated cost of the subscription could be around €2.49 per month in Europe, $29 in Mexico, and Rs229 in Pakistan, although official pricing has not yet been confirmed. A one-month free trial is also being offered.
The subscription will follow a monthly payment model with automatic renewal unless users cancel it manually. To avoid renewal, users will need to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing cycle through platforms like the Google Play Store.
Reports also mention that WhatsApp had previously charged a small fee in some regions years ago, but this was removed after Meta acquired the platform in 2016.
