Harrison Ford is returning as Indiana Jones, though this time it’s for a new theme park attraction rather than a film.
Disney announced at its recent D23 fan event that Ford, 84, will be featured as the model for a new animatronic ride at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park.
This marks the first time Ford’s likeness will be used for an Indiana Jones ride at a Disney park, though it’s unclear whether he will also provide his voice for the experience.
The new ride will be located at the site of a former dinosaur-themed attraction and will follow Indy as he explores an ancient temple guarded by a legendary serpent, forcing him to face his well-known fear of snakes. Disney worked with cultural experts to help accurately represent the ride’s Maya-inspired setting.
A specific opening date has not yet been announced, but the ride is part of a larger expansion planned for the park, which will also include new attractions inspired by other popular franchises. This new area of the park is expected to open sometime in 2027.
Ford has played the character of Indiana Jones for more than 40 years, beginning with the original film in 1981.
While the character will be celebrated in the new ride, there are currently no plans to continue the film franchise, following disappointing box office results from the most recent movie.
A Lucasfilm executive also recently said reviving the series further is unlikely for now.
