Hannah Einbinder debuts Haley Stevens impression after Abdul El-Sayed’s Michigan senate victory
Einbinder imitates Stevens, including her distinctive way of speaking and encouraging supporters
Hannah Einbinder has followed through on a promise to showcase her impression of Michigan Representative Haley Stevens after Democrat Abdul El-Sayed won the state’s US Senate race.
The Hacks actress shared a video of herself performing the impression on Wednesday, November 4, after teasing the idea on Instagram Stories the night before.
Einbinder had promised to reveal what she called her “perfect” Stevens impression if “our guys (gender neutral) win tonight”. Following El-Sayed’s victory, she posted a video from a bar with the caption “As promised”.
In the clip, Einbinder imitates Stevens, including her distinctive way of speaking and encouraging supporters to give their opponents “a little bit of stick it to ’em”. She also shared a separate post celebrating El-Sayed’s win, writing “Mazel tov, Abdul”.
The joke comes after Stevens, who lost the Democratic primary to El-Sayed earlier this year, endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers shortly before Election Day. Her decision drew criticism from Democrats, particularly because she had previously pledged to support the party’s nominee.
Stevens said her endorsement followed tensions with El-Sayed’s campaign and concerns about his conduct and political associations. The disagreement also involved criticism surrounding the campaign’s messaging on Israel and its connections to political commentator Hasan Piker.
El-Sayed’s victory marks a significant milestone, with him set to become the first Muslim elected to the US Senate. His campaign focused on issues including healthcare, economic affordability and campaign finance.
Einbinder has previously spoken publicly in support of Palestinian rights. During her acceptance speech at the 2025 Emmy Awards, the actress said “Free Palestine”, drawing attention to her political advocacy.
The comedian’s impression adds a pop-culture moment to a closely watched Michigan election, following a campaign marked by tensions within the Democratic Party.
